rr ‘He is a brick wall’ — Chiefs offensive lineman is already proving to be rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott’s training camp nemesis

Kansas City Chiefs rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott is getting his true welcome to the NFL at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri.

While things will be taken up another level when the teams put pads on for the first time on Sunday, July 27, Norman-Lott is already getting a taste of the competition that Andy Reid’s training camps bring. Working often with the first-team defense through four practices, Norman-Lott’s biggest challenge has been the repetitions where his job is to face off in the trenches with All-Pro C Creed Humphrey.

Chiefs rookie DT Omarr Norman-Lott calls Creed Humphrey a ‘brick wall’ after four practices at training camp

Every rookie will have a welcome to the NFL moment at various points of their indoctrination into the league. Asked about his biggest challenge along the offensive line in training camp so far, Norman-Lott had eye-opening comments about the Chiefs’ starting center.

“(Creed) Humphrey is a brick wall,” Norman-Lott said, met with media member laughter. “No, no, I’m not laughing. Seriously, seriously, I’d say Creed.”

The 26-year-old Humphrey is quickly becoming the rookie Norman-Lott’s biggest training camp nemesis. He’s proven to be a massive challenge for the rookie, especially on plays where the two have to grapple, and it’s Norman-Lott’s job to move Humphrey and get to the ball carrier. He told reporters the story that prompted his “brick wall” reaction.

“No, it was like, I’ll tell you this,” Norman-Lott said. “I think it was yesterday we had a rep, and he was like running an outside zone play. I was trying to move him, and I was like, ‘Damn my mid rep. I’m like, ‘Damn this dude is — he’s a brick wall.’ He’s solid, and he’s a great athlete.”

Of course, the rookie has the proper perspective here. The timeless football platitude: Iron sharpens iron. He knows that working against Humphrey every day in practice should have an enormous impact on refining his abilities and preparing him for the NFL game. He already feels that it’s helping him level up just four days into training camp practices.

“A lot,” he said. “Astronomical. We’re talking about — these are some of the best guys in this league. So, it’s helped me take my level to the next step.”
