Raiders Bolster Secondary, Sign Pro Bowl Safety Jamal Adams

In a move that could significantly strengthen their defense, the Las Vegas Raiders have signed three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams to a one-year deal. The former Seattle Seahawks standout, known for his hard-hitting style and versatility, joins a Raiders secondary looking to improve after a shaky 2025 season.

What Adams Brings to Las Vegas

Adams, 28, was one of the NFL’s most dominant safeties during his prime with the New York Jets and Seahawks. While injuries have slowed him in recent years, his ability to play near the line of scrimmage as a hybrid linebacker/safety makes him a valuable asset. The Raiders plan to use him in multiple roles, including blitzing, run support, and coverage against tight ends—an area where they struggled last season.

Why This Move Makes Sense

Las Vegas’ defense ranked near the bottom of the league in pass defense in 2023, and Adams’ experience could provide an immediate upgrade. His leadership and aggressive playing style align with defensive coordinator Patrick Graham’s scheme, which emphasizes pressure and physicality. If healthy, Adams could form a dangerous tandem with returning safety Tre’von Moehrig.

Potential Concerns

The biggest question is Adams’ durability. He has played just 10 games over the past two seasons due to shoulder and quad injuries. The Raiders are likely betting on a low-risk, high-reward scenario, as the contract is reportedly incentive-laden.

Raiders’ Offseason Strategy

This signing follows a series of defensive additions, including DT Christian Wilkins and CB Jack Jones, showing the Raiders’ commitment to fixing their defense. If Adams returns to even 80% of his All-Pro form, this could be one of the steals of free agency.

Final Verdict

While not without risk, the Adams signing is a smart gamble for Las Vegas. If he stays healthy, he could be the missing piece in a revamped Raiders defense aiming for playoff contention in 2025.
