Not long ago, a five-year-old dog named Mr. Snufflufugus was left to survive alone on the streets of Copperas Cove, Texas. Lost, scared, and without anyone to care for him, he wandered the city — hoping someone might notice him and offer help.

Thankfully, someone did.

Local animal control officers were alerted, and they quickly responded. When they finally located Mr. Snufflufugus, he was terrified but clearly relieved to see a friendly face. He was brought safely to Copperas Cove Animal Control, where something incredibly touching happened.

Just moments after being rescued, this sweet pup wrapped his paws around one of the staff members — giving them the kind of heartfelt hug that only a grateful dog could give. It was so pure, so emotional, that a staff member captured the moment in a photo that would soon spread like wildfire across the internet.

That one hug changed everything.

According to Tamara Hall, the animal control supervisor, “Victoria and I were in the play area with Mr. Snufflufugus when he decided he needed a hug.” It quickly became clear: this was no ordinary dog. He craved affection, loved being close, and had the sweetest personality anyone could ask for.

“If you’re sitting on the floor, he’ll either curl up beside you or climb into your lap. His eyes — those big, gentle eyes — are impossible to resist,” Hall added.

Mr. Snufflufugus also enjoys a cozy lifestyle. On social media, Victoria described him as a “good potato” who loves couch cuddles, chest naps, and being told he’s a good boy — which he absolutely is.

Once the Copperas Cove Police Department shared his now-famous hugging photo, the shelter was flooded with interest. People everywhere were touched by his story. The shelter, though small, was overwhelmed by the number of adoption inquiries.

In a later update, the shelter clarified that Mr. Snufflufugus would do best in a home without other pets or small children, as his deeply affectionate nature might lead to possessiveness over his humans.

To ensure he finds the perfect match, Mr. Snufflufugus was transferred to Pit Squad Rescue in Minnesota. There, he’s receiving treatment for heartworm — an expensive but necessary process. The team at Pit Squad didn’t hesitate. They’re determined to give this loving dog the second chance he deserves.

“Mr. Snufs has shown nothing but gratitude and affection to everyone he meets,” the rescue team shared. “And yes — he still gives the best snuggles.”

Now with a foster family, Mr. Snufflufugus is thriving. He’s showered with love, and the feeling is clearly mutual.
