The image of this dog cowering inside a machine designed to crush waste isn’t something easily forgotten. Authorities believe someone intentionally placed him there. It wasn’t just abandonment—it was a deliberate act of cruelty.

Fortunately, fate intervened. Brandon Arroyo, who works with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, received a call about the dog and immediately responded with his wife, Heather. Using his experience in handling animals, Brandon carefully lured the dog to safety using a lead rope.

“You know, to put someone in a trash compactor like this … it’s beyond just kicking him out to the street,” Brandon later told the media. “He doomed this dog. If no one found him, it would have been over.”

Brandon and Heather took the dog home, gave him a warm bath, and named him Daytona. Though not visibly injured, the pup showed signs of poor health—likely due to neglect and malnutrition.
