ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — An arrest has been made in the deadly shooting of a longtime, award-winning “American Idol” music supervisor and her husband in their multi-million-dollar home in Encino.
In a statement provided to ABC7 on Tuesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the ABC singing competition TV series confirmed the deaths of Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca.
“We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing,” the statement from “American Idol” said. “Robin has been a cornerstone of the ‘Idol’ family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”
Officers responded to a request for a welfare check at the home on White Oak Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. That’s when they found the two victims with multiple gunshot wounds.
Man arrested in Encino double murder
The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian of Reseda. Detectives believe he has no relationship to the victims. He was allegedly burglarizing the residence while the couple came home, and he shot and killed them during a struggle.
Sources tell ABC News that there is no evidence he is related to any burglary rings and was not working with anyone else. They believe it was an isolated event. Police say the suspect has no history of burglary, but he does have a criminal record.
Lt. Guy Gulon said Boodarian was identified using surveillance video from outside of the residence and some other forensic evidence found at the scene.
He was arrested around 3 p.m. Tuesday at his home on Vanowen Street without incident, according to LAPD.
The Los Angeles Police Department provided an update on the double murder at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Timeline of the crime
Detectives believe the murder happened on Thursday, July 10, when LAPD got two calls for service for a possible burglary at the address where someone was seen hopping a fence.
Officers responded to the calls for service that day, but could not get inside because the home is highly fortified, according to police. They saw no signs of burglary on the ground, and a helicopter that flew overhead saw no signs of burglary, so they left the scene.
The scene remained untouched until officers were called back to the residence on Monday, July 14, for a welfare check after family members said they hadn’t heard from the couple for days.
A loved one met them at the home and gave them a key code to get into the gate. Officers then made their way inside by shattering a back window.

Inside, they found the couple dead with multiple gunshot wounds. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that the victims were found shot to death in separate rooms inside the house.
Police later obtained surveillance video that shows the suspect entering the home on the afternoon of July 10. The video shows the suspect had been inside the home for about 30 minutes before the couple came home and confronted him, LAPD said. That’s when they were shot and killed.
Police say the suspect did not force entry, and instead found an open way inside. The home was not ransacked, and it’s unclear what, if anything, was taken from the home, LAPD said.
The 22-year-old suspect was arrested without incident on Tuesday afternoon. At last check, the murder weapon had not been located.
Reaction from neighbors and community
“They are a nice couple. Really nice people,” said Mauro Quintero, who has cleaned the couple’s pool every Tuesday for the past two years. He showed up for work on Tuesday and learned of the news.
Quintero says this is not the first time their home has been targeted by burglars.
“More than one month ago, I came and the guy came out and told me somebody break in, and they have little dogs, and the dogs keep barking, he wake up, and the people run away,” Quintero said.
LAPD is now looking into whether that previous incident is connected to the deadly burglary shooting.
“We didn’t see or hear anything. My renter called 911 on Thursday because she saw somebody hopping the fence,” said neighbor Amee Faggen. “And I have no idea if that was related or not. They came and left, the helicopters and police came. And I heard from my other neighbor that yesterday, the police came to do a wellness check, and the family said they hadn’t heard from them in four days.”
“Unimaginable, but it just shows you no matter how much security, protection you have here, if they want to get in, they are going to get in,” neighbor Eric Partovich said.
