NFL analyst Colin Cowherd is once again stirring debate—this time over the Pittsburgh Steelers’ contract extension with star linebacker T.J. Watt. Following the announcement that Watt has agreed to a lucrative multi-year extension, Cowherd questioned whether the franchise is making the right long-term investment.

Speaking on The Herd, Cowherd praised Watt’s undeniable talent but raised concerns about the Steelers’ broader roster strategy. “T.J. Watt is a game-wrecker—no doubt about that,” Cowherd said. “But when you give big money to a defensive player, it limits what you can spend elsewhere, especially when your offense is still trying to find an identity.”

Cowherd pointed out that Pittsburgh has been in a rebuild mode on offense, with an uncertain quarterback situation and a young receiving corps. Committing major cap space to a non-quarterback, even one as elite as Watt, might create imbalance in a team that’s searching for consistency.

Despite the concerns, fans are largely celebrating the move. Watt, a three-time All-Pro and former Defensive Player of the Year, has been the cornerstone of the Steelers’ defense since entering the league.
