NN.From Neglect to Hope: Rescued Great Danes Begin a New Chapter.

Once living in harsh conditions and without a glimpse of affection, two Great Danes named Phoebe and Tabitha are finally on the path to healing — and love.

For years, these gentle giants knew nothing but hardship. Confined in an overcrowded rural shelter in Georgia, they lacked even basic care and supervision. Their lives took a darker turn when a local farmer spotted them wandering onto his property and threatened to shoot them. Time was running out — until help arrived.

Local animal advocates, moved by the dogs’ story, sprang into action. A veterinary technician and an animal control officer rushed to the scene. The moment Phoebe and Tabitha saw them, the dogs clung tightly to their rescuers — as if finally sensing they were safe.

“They held onto the first humans who showed them kindness after spending their lives just trying to survive,” wrote the nonprofit rescue group Hounds in Pounds on Facebook.

The rescue team quickly brought them to one of Hounds in Pounds’ veterinary partners. There, the pair received much-needed medical care for the first time in years.

Today, Phoebe and Tabitha are safe and stable, and looking for foster homes where they can continue to heal in peace. The organization is calling for loving families to open their doors and hearts, whether for one dog or both.

“Despite their size, both girls are incredibly gentle and well-mannered on a leash,” the rescue shared. “They are more than beautiful — they’re kind, loving, and truly grateful.”

While they wait for their forever homes, Phoebe and Tabitha are surrounded by compassion and care. Their days of being forgotten are over. And now, they can finally look forward to the love and security they’ve always deserved.
