Brock Purdy Earns Chiefs’ Respect with Impressive Play
It’s not often that one Super Bowl contender openly praises the quarterback of another — especially one they could very well face in the big game. But that’s exactly what’s happening with Brock Purdy, the young San Francisco 49ers quarterback who continues to impress fans, analysts, and now, even rival teams.
The Kansas City Chiefs, known for their own elite quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, have offered surprising — and genuine — praise for Purdy’s recent performances. In a media session earlier this week, several Chiefs players and coaches were asked about the rising 49ers star, and the responses were filled with admiration.

“He’s smart, composed, and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes,” said one Chiefs defensive coach. “You can tell he’s confident in the system and has total command of that offense.”
Another veteran player on the Chiefs defense added, “He’s not just managing games anymore — he’s making big-time throws. You’ve got to respect that.”
Purdy, who was famously dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant” after being selected with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has shattered expectations since stepping in as the 49ers’ starting quarterback. After leading the team deep into the playoffs last season, he’s returned stronger, more decisive, and seemingly more in sync with head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme.
This season, Purdy has posted solid stats, showing impressive poise in high-pressure moments. His accuracy, field vision, and quick decision-making have become defining traits — and they’re starting to catch the attention of the entire league.
But why does praise from the Chiefs matter?
Because Kansas City is the gold standard in today’s NFL. With multiple Super Bowl appearances and two Lombardi Trophies in the past five years, the Chiefs have built a dynasty around discipline, talent, and elite quarterback play. So when they tip their hats to another team’s young signal-caller, it carries weight.
Former players have also joined the chorus of praise. “You can tell Purdy’s not just benefiting from a good system — he’s elevating the team,” said a retired Chiefs cornerback on a national podcast. “He reminds me of a young Tom Brady in the way he controls the game.”
Of course, the season is long, and Purdy will face tougher tests ahead. But as of now, he’s gaining respect from the very best — and that’s no small feat.
If the 49ers and Chiefs both continue their winning ways, a Super Bowl showdown may be on the horizon. And if that happens, one thing is clear: Brock Purdy won’t be flying under anyone’s radar anymore.
