Sudden disappearance
For someone who always puts work first like Jodi, it would be strange if one day she disappeared without warning.

On June 27, 1995, the strange thing happened. When it was almost time to record the 6 a.m. news on KIMT-TV, Jodi still hadn’t arrived. Producer Amy Kuns called the reporter and received an apology, she also asked for permission to be a little late.

But Jodi Huisentruit never came to the station again…

Shortly after, people realized that something terrible had happened to the 27-year-old female reporter when she rushed out of the house to go to work. That’s when the representative of KIMT-TV asked the police to check Jodi’s apartment. They found her belongings scattered around the Mazda Miata in the parking lot of the apartment building where she lived.

That was the beginning of a mystery that exists to this day. What happened to beautiful reporter Jodi Huisentruit? Was she kidnapped by a stranger? A rapist? Or even by a friend who may have had a falling out with her?

A bright future
Born on June 5, 1968, Jodi Sue Huisentruit grew up in Long Prairie, Minnesota. While still in school, Jodi had dreams of becoming a news anchor.

“She wanted to be famous,” Jodi’s close friend from high school, Kim Feist, told 48 Hours. “She had this dream of being a news anchor since high school.”

To pursue that goal, Jodi attended St. Cloud State University. The energetic student also worked as a contributor for the school’s television station. After graduating, Jodi worked for several other television stations before officially becoming a morning anchor at KIMT-TV in Mason City, Iowa, just a four-hour drive from where she grew up.

Jodi quickly settled into her new job in a new city. Her colleagues described her as “lively” and “energetic” despite her young age. Jodi also made friends with a new group of friends, including an older man named John Vansice.

In the days before Jodi went missing, everything seemed normal. She went on a water skiing trip in Iowa City with a group of friends that included John Vansice. The night before she disappeared, Jodi stopped by John Vansice’s house for a moment to watch a video of the surprise birthday party the group had thrown for her earlier in the month.

But on June 27, 1995, Jodi Huisentruit failed to show up for her morning shift at KIMT-TV.
