The Kansas City Chiefs ramped things up on Day 5 of training camp, held July 27 at Missouri Western State University, as players suited up in full pads for the first time this offseason. It marked a major shift from the earlier non-contact practices to full-speed, full-contact drills.
The day featured a heavy dose of thud periods, 9-on-7 run-game reps, and highly competitive 1-on-1 matchups between the offensive and defensive lines. With the pads on, the energy spiked and the battle for roster spots got real.
Veteran running back Kareem Hunt summed it up:
“First day in full pads? You can’t hide out here. Everyone’s going hard. It’s where you find out who’s ready to play.”
Rookie defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott also made his presence felt with physical play and high motor. Despite a minor collision early in practice, he stayed on the field and kept competing — a mentality the Chiefs coaching staff values.
The session ended with a fast tempo and strong momentum. More than just a physical test, it was a gut check — pushing players to show not just skill, but grit, toughness, and chemistry. All critical ingredients for a championship run.
