RH COWBOYS STUN FANS: 6-Foot-4 Veteran Cut Just 24 Hours Into Camp—Locker Room Shaken as Questions Swirl Over Sudden Move!

Getty The Dallas Cowboys are already making roster moves as training camp begins.

Training camp just started for the Dallas Cowboys, and the team is already making roster moves. The Cowboys reported on July 20, 2025, with things officially kicking off on July 21.

Dallas announced several roster moves on July 22 with cornerback Josh Butler, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and corner Trevon Diggs all being placed on the Active/PUP list. Cornerback Shavon Revel was also placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

The Cowboys signed defensive end James Houston but released pass rusher Luiji Vilain to make room for the new defender. Dallas is moving on from the 6-foot-4, 252-pound pass rusher as training camp gets underway.

Vilain signed with Dallas on October 9, 2024, as part of the team’s practice squad. The defender inked a futures contract with the franchise back in January.

Vilain did not play a snap for the Cowboys last season. The veteran previously had stints with the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers prior to joining the Cowboys.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Took Dig at the Availability of Dak Prescott & Micah Parsons

It did not take long for owner Jerry Jones to create headlines with the NFL season inching ever closer. Jones sent a blunt message about Micah Parsons missing time as the pass rusher remains in a standoff with the franchise over a potential contract extension.

“Just because we sign him, doesn’t mean we’re going to have him,” Jones noted on July 23, per New York Post. “He was hurt six games last year, seriously.

“I remember signing a player for the highest paid at the position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year, Dak Prescott, so there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

The Cowboys Will Unveil a New Defense as Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus Takes Over in Big D

The Cowboys defense will look different this upcoming season as former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus takes over as defensive coordinator. It remains to be seen what kind of changes Eberflus will make to the unit in his first season in Big D.

“He is the Cowboys’ third coordinator in as many years, so there will be a learning curve of sorts,” ESPN’s Todd Archer wrote in a July 22, story titled, “Dallas Cowboys 2025 training camp preview.” “In the past, Eberflus’ scheme has not been overly complicated, but he has a number of pass rushers available to him who can cause offenses trouble.

“The run defense has been a sore subject for the Cowboys the past few years. While Mazi Smith, the 2023 first-round pick, catches the most flak, the entire unit needs to be better. Can Eberflus get more out of that part of the defense with speed and effort?”

It appears the unit is already making strides at the start of training camp. The Cowboys defense forced multiple turnovers during the team’s July 22, practice, per Archer.

“The defense was active with DE Marshawn Kneeland coming up with a pick of Prescott while dropping to the flat on a pass intended for Sanders,” Archer detailed in a July 22, article titled, “2025 Dallas Cowboys training camp: Latest intel, updates.” “There were at least two forced fumbles on ballcarriers down the field, including one where DaRon Bland punched the ball free from George Pickens.

“With Parsons not taking part in team drills, Dante Fowler Jr. and Kneeland were the first-team defensive ends.”
