Andy Reid Says Travis Kelce “Looks 20 Again” at Chiefs Training Camp

Kansas City, MO – Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid had nothing but praise for his veteran tight end Travis Kelce during a media session at training camp this week. According to Reid, the 34-year-old Kelce is turning back the clock with his current physical form and work ethic, leaving coaches and teammates impressed.

“He’s svelte right now,” Reid said with a grin. “He looks like he’s 20. He’s doing a great job. He’s in great shape. You can see he’s been working out. You saw him yesterday on the long run where he had the burst. He’s worked hard to get to this spot.”

The comments came after a particularly sharp day at camp where Kelce flashed his usual explosiveness on a deep route, outrunning younger defenders and showcasing the athleticism that has made him a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ offense for over a decade. But what made Reid’s remarks stand out wasn’t just the praise — it was the comparison to a much younger version of Kelce.

Kelce, who turns 35 in October, is entering his 12th NFL season. Despite his age, he continues to perform at a Pro Bowl level, leading all tight ends in receiving yards in multiple seasons and serving as Patrick Mahomes’ most trusted target. His durability, intelligence, and route-running have helped redefine the position in the modern NFL.

While some fans have speculated about when the All-Pro might start to slow down, Reid’s comments suggest that Kelce may still be far from the end of his prime.

“Travis doesn’t take this for granted,” Reid added. “He’s put in the time this offseason. You can tell. His energy is high, he’s having fun out there, but he’s also locked in. That’s what leaders do.”

Kelce himself has remained humble about his performance. In a brief interview after practice, he credited the Chiefs’ training staff and offseason regimen for helping him stay in peak condition.

“I love this game, and I love competing,” Kelce said. “As long as I can still move like this and help this team win, I’ll keep grinding.”

The Chiefs are aiming for another Super Bowl run this season, and a rejuvenated Travis Kelce could be a major X-factor. With new weapons around Mahomes and a defense looking to build off last year’s success, Kansas City is hoping to maintain its dominance in a fiercely competitive AFC.

For fans and analysts alike, Reid’s glowing review of Kelce is yet another sign that the superstar tight end has no plans of slowing down — and may, in fact, be gearing up for one of his best seasons yet.
