TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan has died at age 71, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Clearwater police said officers were called to the home where Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, suffered a cardiac arrest just before 10 a.m. He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“It was discovered at that time, Terry Bollea, also known as Hulk Hogan, was experiencing a serious medical issue,” Major Nate Burnside said. “Personnel provided medical treatment at the scene and transported him to Morton Plant Hospital where he died at 11:17 a.m.”
Hogan was regarded as one of the post popular professional wrestlers of all time after rocketing to stardom with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in the 1980s.

He made occasional non-wrestling appearances on WWE programming after stepping away from the ring, most recently in January to promote his Real American Beer company.
“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” a statement posted to WWE’s X account said. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”
Ric Flair, a Tampa resident and Hogan’s longtime friend and in-ring rival, responded to news of his death on X.
“I Am Absolutely Shocked To Hear About The Passing Of My Close Friend @HulkHogan!” Flair wrote. “Hulk Has Been By My Side Since We Started In The Wrestling Business. An Incredible Athlete, Talent, Friend, And Father! Our Friendship Has Meant The World To Me. He Was Always There For Me Even When I Didn’t Ask For Him To Be. He Was One Of The First To Visit Me When I Was In The Hospital With A 2% Chance Of Living, And He Prayed By My Bedside. Hulk Also Lent Me Money When Reid Was Sick. Hulkster, No One Will Ever Compare To You! Rest In Peace My Friend! 🙏🏻”
Clearwater Mayor Bruce Rector described Hogan in a statement as “an inspiration to our entire Clearwater community and millions around the world.”
At this time, Hogan’s death is under investigation.

“There are no signs of foul play or anything suspicious about his death; and our personnel is providing the family with the necessary resources,” Burnside said. “I strongly encourage everyone to keep the family in their thoughts, and please respect their privacy during this difficult time.”
