Strong reactions from politicians and entertainment commentators have raised questions regarding the actual reason for the cancellation
The other day, CBS cancelled its popular talk show featuring Stephen Colbert as the host, thus making it set to end next May. Since then, Colbert’s contemporaries have been expressing their surprise at the network’s decision.
Taking to his Instagram Stories, Jimmy Fallon, who hosts a similar TV show, wrote, “I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it. I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come.”
In the post, Fallon reminisced about his friendship with Colbert, dating back to the latter’s show The Colbert Report, which ran from 2005 to 2014. Fallon also expressed his disappointment at seeing the end of the talk show where Colbert would interact with celebrities.
“I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30.” He also extended his best wishes to Colbert, saying, “I’m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.”
On the other hand, an infuriated Jimmy Kimmel reacted to the news regarding Colbert with profane words. “Love you Stephen,” wrote Kimmel, who also sarcastically criticised CBS for preferring certain sitcoms over the popular talk show. The likes of Seth Meyers and Andy Cohen have echoed Fallon and Kimmel’s sentiments.
The news about Colbert has sparked reactions from the world of entertainment and beyond. For example, Donald Trump has justified CBS’ decision and claimed that Kimmel would face the sack next. The US President looked down upon both Colbert and Kimmel’s talents as talk show hosts. Both Kimmel and Colbert have been critics of Trump and his politics.
