Hollywood’s Biggest Names Prepare for a Cringeworthy Reunion on ‘The Late Show’ as They Rally Behind Stephen Colbert—Inside the Star-Studded Night Everyone Will Be Talking About

Stephen Colbert may already be canceled, but his allies seem determined to embarrass themselves on national TV by rushing to his defense.

In a show of sheer desperation and neediness, Jimmy Fallon, John Oliver and other comedians are expected to appear on “The Late Show” to slam CBS’ decision to cancel the show, the LateNighter first reported. Others, like Jimmy Kimmel, have rushed to Colbert’s defense.

It’s more than a little pathetic watching other late-night comedians scramble to defend a man who has clearly worn out his welcome. The cancelation of Colbert’s show wasn’t some grand injustice — it was a long-overdue reckoning. Instead of addressing the very real disconnect between their comedy and the average viewer, these comedians are doubling down in a desperate attempt to preserve a fading status quo.

Colbert’s meek attempt at comedy stopped being funny years ago, devolving instead into a predictable echoing of elite-approved talking points. His slipping ratings reflected his dip in popularity, and the network finally pulled the plug. It’s crazy to think that competing late night hosts and comedians want to attach themselves to Colbert’s sinking ship.

Further, it’s embarrassing to watch Colbert’s peers treat the show’s cancelation like a moral crusade instead of what it really is — a professional fallout.

Kimmel and company are painting Colbert as a martyr for truth, when in reality, he’s just another out-of-touch millionaire who lost relevance long ago and needs to step aside.

The late-night landscape used to be a place where clever wit and satire once entertained. Those days are long gone.
