TikTok Star ‘Papa Jake’ Has Officially Died At 102-Years-Old
Jake Larson, known affectionately online as “Papa Jake,” passed away peacefully over the weekend at the age of 102, his family confirmed.
A decorated World War II veteran and one of the last living survivors of the D-Day landings, Larson gained unexpected fame in recent years by sharing his life stories on TikTok, where he inspired more than 1.2 million followers with his humor, humility, and powerful reflections on war and service.
“Our beloved Papa Jake has passed away on July 17th at 102 years young,” McKaela Larson, Papa Jake’s granddaughter, wrote in a post on his TikTok. “Please know, he went peacefully and was even cracking jokes til the very end.”
In the final years of his life, with the help of his granddaughter, Larson became a social media sensation. His posts, often filled with warmth and wit, bridged the gap between past and present, helping younger audiences understand the cost of war and the importance of remembering those who served.
“When the time is right, I will continue to share Papa Jake’s stories and keep his memory alive, ” MaKaela continued. “We appreciate all the kind words and posts. As Papa would say, love you all the mostest.”
Who Was Papa Jake?
Born in 1922 in Minnesota, Larson enlisted in the National Guard at just 15 by lying about his age.
Larson shared in several interviews and social media posts that he was 21 years old when he landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.
As an operations sergeant with V Corps Headquarters, Larson had a rare and critical role helping assemble the top-secret planning books for Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of Normandy.
“The highest form of secrecy you could get,” Larson said. “What an honor for a county boy.”
The veteran also shared many sweet moments with his family, including his first trip to Disneyland accompanied by MaKaela.
