Country Artists Step Up To Support Texas Flood Relief

Exactly two weeks ago, devastating flash flooding tore through the Hill Country in central Texas with catastrophic consequences. Early in the morning of July 4th, the Guadalupe River rose more than 20 feet in mere minutes, washing away homes and vehicles, and leaving people nearly no time to escape.

As of July 17th, CBS News reports that the death toll has reached 135. 27 of those were campers and counselors at Camp Mystic in Kerr County.

As residents and loved ones continue to search for those still missing, many key players in country music are stepping up to help in any way they can. Texas-native Pat Green hosted a virtual benefit concert on July 16th that raised more than $1 million. His family was among those affected, as his younger brother John, John’s wife, and two kids lost their lives in the flood.

George Strait announced an intimate benefit concert and dinner to take place on July 27th. Tickets for the show sold out in just a few days.

Additionally, Robert Earl Keen will host a talent-packed show titled “Applause For The Cause” on August 28th. The lineup includes Miranda Lambert, Tyler Childers, Jamey Johnson, Aaron Watson, Cody Jinks, and many more.

Fellow Texans Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum are the latest artists to share their plans to support the victims of the floods. Today, they announced “Band Together Texas,” a benefit concert to take place on August 17th at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

Lambert shared in a press release:

“One of the things I love about both our artist community and our community in Texas is that we show up for one another, especially in times of such great need like folks in my home state are facing after the flood.”

Along with performances from Lambert and McCollum, the lineup includes Ryan Bingham, Wade Bowen, Kelly Clarkson, Ronnie Dunn, Dylan Gossett, Jack Ingram, Cody Johnson, Lyle Lovett, Lukas Nelson, Jon Randall, and the Randy Rogers Band.

Additionally, notable Texans from other facets of the entertainment industry will support the event. These include actors Matthew McConaughey and Dennis Quaid, former UT Longhorns coach Mack Brown, players Emmanuel Acho, Colt McCoy, and Vince Young, MLB star Roger Clemens, and television host Chris Harrison.

All proceeds from the show will benefit the Community Foundation of Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation.
