“I didn’t know what else to do. I just searched ‘how to deliver a baby’ and prayed it would work.”
Dallas, TX – When 16-year-old Layla Johnson heard her mom scream from the living room, she had no idea her life was about to change forever — or that she’d soon be the unlikely hero of a real-life emergency.
Layla’s mother, eight months pregnant, had gone into labor unexpectedly at home. With no adults nearby and 911 still minutes away, Layla did what any Gen Z teen might do — she grabbed her phone and searched YouTube.

What followed was a breathtaking 12-minute moment of courage: with her mom lying on the couch in pain, Layla calmly followed an instructional video, guided her mother through the contractions, and safely delivered her baby brother right there in their living room.
“I was shaking, but I kept breathing and listening,” Layla said. “When he finally cried, I just started crying too.”

Paramedics arrived shortly after and confirmed that both mom and baby were healthy — thanks in no small part to Layla’s quick thinking and calm under pressure.
The story has since gone viral, with thousands praising the teen’s bravery and resourcefulness. One commenter wrote, “She didn’t just save the day — she saved a life.”
Layla says she’s still processing it all. “I was just trying to help my mom. But maybe one day I’ll be a nurse. Who knows?”
