It was only two months ago that D.J. Humphries was supposed to be the newest member of the San Francisco 49ers. After that rumor never quite materialized, the Los Angeles Rams have stepped up to claim Humphries for themselves.

In a deal that will keep Humphries in the NFC West, the Rams have reached agreement with the veteran lineman on a one-year deal in free agency.

Humphries spent last season with the Kansas City Chiefs after signing as a free agent late in the year. The team turned to him in the midst of left tackle frustrations and inserted him as the starter after a week with the team. However, a hamstring injury quickly sidelined him from the role, forcing the Chiefs to slide left guard Joe Thuney outside.

Reports had Humphries interested in a potential return with the Chiefs, but the front office decided on a near-overhaul with their offensive bookends. While Jawaan Taylor remains on the roster, the Chiefs signed tackle Jaylon Moore away from the San Francisco 49ers to a two-year deal in free agency and drafted Josh Simmons with their first-round selection.

The Chiefs still have Wanya Morris, Ethan Driskell, and Kingsley Suamataia on the roster as potential tackle options as well.

As for the Rams, the presumed starters up front are Alaric Jackson on the left side and Rob Havenstein on the right. David Quessenberry was just added in free agency in late May, and former fifth-round choice Warren McClendon is also on the roster. Humphries provides even more depth, which was a major need this offseason.

Humphries entered the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals as their first-round choice in the 2015 NFL Draft. He’s played in a total of 100 games in his career, with 98 of those coming in Arizona.
