For the third straight year, Patrick Mahomes has been crowned the NFL’s No. 1 quarterback, according to ESPN’s 2025 positional rankings. The list, compiled through surveys of more than 70 NFL executives, coaches, and scouts, reaffirms what fans across the Red Kingdom already knew: Mahomes is still the gold standard under center.
Despite a challenging 2024 season, Mahomes maintained his top ranking — earning over 60% of first-place votes, showing that his excellence is recognized even beyond the stat sheet. ESPN notes that while the margin has narrowed compared to previous years, Mahomes’ combination of elite arm talent, playmaking ability, and leadership continues to separate him from the pack.
“Even when things don’t go perfectly, he finds ways to win. That’s greatness,” one AFC coach told ESPN.
The ranking places Mahomes ahead of other elite QBs like Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts. Analysts highlighted Mahomes’ ability to perform in clutch moments, including two Super Bowl victories and five consecutive AFC Championship appearances.
As the 2025 season approaches and the Chiefs reload for another title run, this recognition serves as both a reminder and a warning: As long as Mahomes is at the helm, Kansas City is never out of contention.
