V. Chiefs’ Reid Voted NFL’s Top Head Coach by AP Writers

Despite a turbulent end to the 2024 season, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has once again proven his legendary status. In a recent survey conducted by Associated Press (AP) writers, Reid was voted the NFL’s top head coach, earning widespread recognition from analysts, insiders, and journalists across the league.

Consistency Over Hype

While other head coaches made headlines with flashy trades or unpredictable playoff runs, Reid’s success has come from long-term consistency, elite player development, and tactical brilliance. Under his leadership, the Chiefs have not only remained perennial contenders but also established a dynasty-like run since Patrick Mahomes took over under center.

According to AP’s compiled votes, Reid received the highest number of first-place selections, narrowly edging out younger coaches like Kyle Shanahan (49ers) and Mike McDaniel (Dolphins). Voters cited Reid’s ability to maintain a winning culture year after year—even during times of roster turnover—as a key reason for the ranking.

Mahomes Reacts: “Coach is the Engine”

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes praised the honor in a recent interview:

“Coach Reid is the engine of everything we do. He keeps us focused, keeps us innovative, and he makes football fun.”

It’s not just Mahomes. Travis Kelce, Chris Jones, and even new rookies like Xavier Worthy have pointed to Reid’s leadership as a cornerstone of their development and confidence.

More Than Just Offense

Though widely known for his offensive genius, Reid’s impact goes beyond play calling. The Chiefs have consistently ranked among the top defensive units in recent seasons, showing his commitment to building complete football teams. His collaboration with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has transformed Kansas City into one of the most balanced squads in the NFL.

A Legacy Still Growing

At age 67, Reid has coached over 450 NFL games and has more than 250 career wins. With three Super Bowl appearances in the past five years and two championship rings with the Chiefs, many believe he is carving out a place not just among the greats—but perhaps as the greatest.

Yet Reid himself remains humble.

“It’s always about the team. This is a players’ league, and I’ve been lucky to coach some of the best,” he said when asked about the AP recognition.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With training camp just around the corner, Reid isn’t slowing down. The Chiefs are entering the new season with new offensive weapons, a restructured O-line, and championship expectations.

For Kansas City, Reid’s leadership is the constant. And for the rest of the NFL, the message is clear: as long as Andy Reid is calling the shots, the Chiefs will be in the fight for a Super Bowl.
