The accident, which occurred around 00:30 on the A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla, Zamora, involved a Lamborghini Urus that crashed during an overtaking manoeuvre following a suspected tyre blowout. The vehicle left the road, burst into flames, and both brothers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to local police and the Spanish Civil Guard.

“Champions live forever. #20 may be gone from the field—but never from the fight.”

A Community in Shock
Liverpool FC, the Portuguese Football Federation, and politicians from both countries, including Portugal’s president and prime minister, have expressed deep sorrow. Flags across Anfield and national stadiums flew at half-mast, and moments of silence were observed at UEFA Women’s Euro matches.
Teammates and rivals alike—Cristiano Ronaldo, Jürgen Klopp, Darwin Núñez, and Jamie Carragher—have called the loss “devastating,” remembering Jota’s infectious spirit and artistry on the pitch.

Final Whistle
