An unexpected discovery from an old chair has turned Sabrina McClenithan, 26, a content creator living in Florida, USA, into a social media sensation after a video recording the moment she discovered a layer of vintage fabric hidden under the chair’s upholstery went viral.
She and her boyfriend once bought a used dining table for just $25 at a local thrift store. From the moment they bought it, they felt it was a “bargain.”
“The tabletop has handwriting underneath it to show it was handmade, and I love the light green fabric, it has a soft cottage feel that really fits our space,” McClenithan told Newsweek .

After nearly a year of use, McClenithan discovered a small yellow thread poking out from under the seat cover. Initially, she didn’t have the right tools to remove the fabric, so she put it off. But a few months later, while lying in bed, she had the idea to use a knife to lightly cut the fabric.
The next day, McClenithan returned to the process of unwrapping the fabric and captured the shocking moment when underneath was revealed a vintage yellow floral fabric in perfect condition.
“The look on my face was absolutely genuine, I was shocked,” McClenithan said.
The video, shared on TikTok, quickly racked up more than 1.3 million views in just a week. Thousands of comments poured in for McClenithan, ranging from advice on how to restore the chair to curiosity about whether there were other layers hidden underneath.
One user named Ry wrote: “What an amazing find, I love this.” While TikToker Kaitlin expressed: “I’m really amazed.” Another viewer humorously said: “I think the previous owner kept it in good condition.”

McClenithan is now planning to restore all the chairs to the right style, and is eager to learn more about their origins: “I wish I knew where they came from, but that’s the magic of a thrift store: giving new life to something that’s already been loved.”
McClenithan’s story is not an isolated case of interesting discoveries at thrift stores. In 2024, a man made a “storm” online when he accidentally bought an authentic Louis Vuitton wallet worth up to $ 300.
More recently, a Michigan woman found a pair of vintage Chanel earrings for just $2.71 in a tray of fake jewelry, after recognizing the intricate handcrafted detail on the piece.
Moments like McClenithan’s continue to prove that, in the world of thrifting and vintage, you never know what treasures are waiting to be discovered.
