In 2017, dozens of strange mummies were discovered by local resident Leandro Rivera in the Nazca region, sparking much investigation into their true origins. The mummies were unusually shaped, with three-fingered hands and elongated skulls, and also showed signs of metal implants in their hands and heads.

Although some scientists believe that these are not real mummies but dolls made from animal bones combined with modern glue, Dr. David Ruiz Vela – the lead expert in the investigation of these remains – and journalist Jois Mantilla recently revealed an important discovery: While analyzing the mummy named Montserrat at an X-ray center in Lima, they discovered a fetus in its uterus.

According to the research team, Montserrat died about 1,200 years ago when she was less than 30 weeks pregnant. The CT scan results showed that the fetus was lying on its back, its head facing down near the mother’s abdomen and chest, and its two hands were near the pelvic area.
The age of the fetus was determined based on the length of the femur (43 mm), equivalent to a pregnancy under 30 weeks. Notably, Jois Mantilla discovered that Montserrat’s two hands were still holding the belly tightly as if protecting the fetus, even though the belly was dry, dehydrated and almost flat.

The research team called these mummies “tridactyls” due to the characteristic of three-fingered hands – an unusual detail that has caused much speculation about their origin. There are even theories that they have alien or reptilian ancestors.
Mantilla said that the organs on the bodies of the mummies that have been identified show many anatomical similarities with humans, although further analysis is needed to draw a definitive conclusion.

Montserrat is estimated to have died at the age of 16-25, about 1.6 m tall, with metal implants in her arms, chest and head. Some of the plates were implanted while Montserrat was still alive and skin had grown around them.

Not only Montserrat, many other mummies also have metal plates covering the inside and outside of their bodies, with the characteristic of not being rejected by the body, seemingly having a biological function. Dr. Zalce said that alloys in metals include copper, cadmium, osmium, aluminum, gold and silver – of which silver is more than 95% pure, which is very rare in nature. Notably, cadmium and osmium are modern materials, used in satellite and aerospace technology.
Currently, researchers and scientists are still looking for a definitive answer to this problem.
