CT Defending champions could be moving forward without another star.

Why the Los Angeles Galaxy could be without their high scoring Serbian forward

The player movement for the six-time MLS Cup champions is still going strong. The front office for the Los Angeles Galaxy is going at a rapid pace to revamp this roster with a dynasty in mind.

The LA Galaxy won their first title in 2002. They won again three years later. Had the penalty kicks gone in their favor and not Real Salt Lake’s, another championship would have been hoisted in 2009.

In 2011, the Galaxy won and successfully defended their title the next year. They became just the third team in MLS history to do so.

After capturing the cup in 2024, the Los Angeles Galaxy look to do so again this year. Their quest for another title appears to be underway without the services of their stars.

Following weeks of speculation and rumors, forward Dejan Joveljic was the subject of intrigue. Liga MX’s Tigres was originally at the forefront to acquire the Serbian’s services. Now, it appears that another Western Conference team is coming forth.

Sporting Kansas City is willing to take on the $4 million fee to net Joveljic. The LA Galaxy forward is on the last year of his current contract. With money tied up to multiple players, general manager Will Kuntz is looking at his product with the future in mind.

The team will already begin the season without midfielder Riqui Puig. Also gone are Gaston Brugman, Jalen Neal and Marky Delgado.

What’s next for the LA Galaxy?

If this is the next move Kuntz makes to reshape the roster for head coach Greg Vanney, acquiring another scorer is surely on the radar.

During the regular season in 2024, Joveljic found the back of the net 15 times. He also recorded five assists .

His most memorable goal for the LA Galaxy could easily be the one that launched the team into the MLS Cup Finals. Joveljic score the lone goal during the 1-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders.

Puig added 13 goals and 16 assists during the 2024 season, as well. Look for the Los Angeles Galaxy to be aggressive and bring in another gunner or striker who can add to the scoreboard.

A move like that will surely help the Galaxy win their next championship sooner than later.
