They say that for parents, there is a big difference between one child and two children, but after that it is almost all the same. We think that many mothers and fathers of many children do not agree with this statement, because all children need to be fed and clothed at the very least, and it is also desirable to devote time to communicating with each at least once every few days. The Hagler family is not one of those who are afraid of difficulties, but even they were not ready for such a turn of fate. The spouses wanted a second child together, but in the end, four boys were born at once. Details of this amazing story are available from our colleagues from Parents.ru .
“The doctor was in shock”
For 40-year-old Gabi and 50-year-old Patrick, this is the second marriage. When they met, Gabi already had a daughter, and Patrick had a son, a year younger. Later, the couple decided that they needed a child together, and their son Sammy was born. The parents of many children did not stop there and decided that “to make the count even” they needed another baby.
But they didn’t succeed right away. Before her last pregnancy, Gabi had a miscarriage. And then, around Christmas, they finally saw the long-awaited two stripes. The family waited with bated breath for the first ultrasound and had no idea that their life would change forever after it. Imagine the parents’ surprise when the doctor counted four embryos in Gabi’s uterus.
— At first we thought that these were pictures of the same child, but the doctor, who was shocked herself, explained that these were four different boys, — says the young mother. Carrying four babies under her heart was not easy, Gabi even had her cervix stitched up so that she could complete the pregnancy. Everything went well, and in the 34th week, four more sons were born into the Hagler family.

Of course, life with many children is not all joy and sweetness. Taking care of four children requires a lot of effort and, of course, money. According to the mother’s calculations, a large family uses 45 diapers, 95 wet wipes and up to 24 bottles of formula per day. And daily care procedures for four children take about 9 hours a day.
It also turned out after birth that it was not so easy to tell the babies apart. That is why the parents chose a different color for each boy – Adam wears blue suits with a giraffe, Bennett – green with a sloth, Kobe – white with a panda, and Dane – gray with an elephant. The children’s beds were also marked with the names of animals. But this was not enough: in order not to mix up the babies, for example, during bathing, the mother had to paint each of their toenails.
“Bennett and Kobe looked exactly the same,” exclaims Gabi. “That’s why the first one had a green nail, the second one had a white one. Adam and Dane had their own colors, too.”
But now that the babies are already 6 months old, it is becoming easier to tell them apart. Parents increasingly notice the character traits of each of their sons.
“I turned 50, an age when most people become grandparents,” smiles Patrick Hagler. “And I have four small children. But that has only given me strength. The little ones have helped our family unite, and it’s great that the older children help us take care of them – it has made our relationship stronger.”
More stories of unusual twins and their parents
In the spring of 2018, the media reported the birth of quadruplets: the babies — Ivan, Alena, Ekaterina, and Polina — were born to Marina Steklova and Dmitry Kozlov . Marina says that at first, doctors told them that they would be having twins.

— When they told us there were two [babies], we were happy: great! Then the next ultrasound showed three. It was a bit scary, since triplets are a certain risk. But when they told us there were four… Of course, it wasn’t such a shock as when they told us there were three, — the young mother says.
Life in the Kozlov-Steklov family now goes according to schedule: on certain days Marina’s parents come to stay with them and help them with the kids, then Dmitry’s parents come to take their place. Sometimes the couple is helped by nanny Alla.

In 2012, another family, the Terletskikh-Beckers , also had quadruplets: fraternal twins who were unlike each other. Anton, Dima, Marta and Emilia became media heroes at the time. The 30-week-old babies were born weighing just over a kilogram, and two resuscitators attended the birth. When the twins were a little over two, another boy was born in the family. Alena calls Sasha “a gift that no one refuses.” She says there were no doubts about Sasha’s birth, and jokes that it was 2014, so the child is “Olympic.”
When asked how they live with five children, the parents just laugh, shrug their shoulders and say that they are used to it. Until recently, they had a Sunday nanny who stayed with all the children on the weekend, and it was possible, for example, to go to the store alone. Now they manage on their own. Grandma, Alena smiles, gets tired after a couple of hours, but no one is offended, being with the children is not a burden. And the two of them can be together when everyone is asleep.
— So in the evening we do nothing. We just sit down and relax in silence, — says Alena. — But we are still the kind of people who say: “Let’s talk?” And we talk — about work and about everything interesting that day.
